Some people call the area around lower N. Prospect and N. Farwell Aves. "Plunkettland" because of real estate developer Oliver Plunkett's involvement in so many ventures there. Plunkett had big plans for the area, but many of the properties that his partnerships and companies bought have financial or legal problems. Among such properties are the Knickerbocker Hotel and Park East Hotel. A Plunkett enterprise, Investment Properties, bought an old building for $410,000. It stands vacant and boarded up. But the Prospect Tower - purchased for $7.5 million in 1978 by a Plunkett venture, National Investment Properties I - is regarded as one of the best apartment buildings in Milwaukee and has not been the focus of any controversy. Plunkett enterprises also own many other buildings in the area.
