1966 Press Photo H.I. Romes succeeds Frederick Kappel as chairman of AT&T

H.I. Romes was elected to succeed Frederick R. Kappel, shown with him as board chairman and chief executive officer of American Telephone & Telegraph Co. The change is effective Feb. 1, after Kappel reaches the mandatory retirement age of 65 in January. Romnes, who is president now, is a native of Stoughton, Wis.
