Romney Greets Troops in Vietnam - Michigan Governor George Romney waved to United States troops manning a gun emplacement at Caisson 3 base, 50 miles north of Saigon, during his Christmas day tour of military units in the Saigon area. Romney was given a jeep ride around the base before he left for a stop at Da Nang. It was reported that a United States patrol made contact with the enemy as Romney was leaving the base.
