Adrena Hughes, 9, of Milwaukee, seeks help from her tutor, Dave Lettenberger, of Wauwatosa, as she does geography homework. About 45 neighborhood children come to church on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They meet an almost equal number of tutors, most of them suburbanites. They share a snack or meal before diving into multiplication tables and spelling and social studies lessons. The gathering called the Homework Club. There's a long waiting list of children who want to join the club.
