Thomas Wilson, Milwaukee - Jerry Sage, United States - World War II prisoners of war - Jerry Sage, 75, World War II prisoner of war portrayed by Steve McQueen in movie "The Great Escape," Friday in Enterprise, Alabama. During his captivity in German POW camp, Sage worked for 15 months on three-tunnel escape project that formed plot for movie and also his book, "Sage". After three years as a POW, and numerous breakout attempts, Sage finally escaped across Poland.
