Autumn is here, but the last of the summer wildflowers cling tenaciously to their stalks. Left and right: Tiny wild daisies and the last of warm weather's purple thistles enjoyed the afternoon sun in Fredonia. Above: Chicory, with its familiar blue flowers, began blooming in July along Wisconsin roadsides and rivers. The Milwaukee River, west of Waubeka, is one home for this hearty (wild) plant. An insect rested on the flower.
