Description
The names of concentration camps stood out on steel panels Monday as workers lowered the sheets onto a monument to those killed in the Holocaust during World War II. Designer Claire Lieberman (background) watched as Bill Metsa and John Metsa of Duwe Metal Products Inc. installed the steel plates. The monument stands outside the Jewish Community Center at 1400 N. Prospect Ave. Its focal point is a black granite column representing the smokestacks of concentration camp crematoriums. A band of yellow marble, symbolizing the armbands that Jews were forced to wear during the Nazi era, is at the base of the column. Memorials - Milwaukee
