The father, a Siberian crane on loan from a bird park in West Germany, and the mother, a Siberian crane from Japan, are now the proud parents of the first Siberian crane ever successfully bred in captivity. The historic event occurred Thursday afternoon at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo where the mother is a permanent resident. The female was artificially inseminated.
