The old Ahrens grist mill, for 85 years a familiar sight on the Mill road of the Oak Creek parkway in Grant park, South Milwaukee, will soon be demolished by the county park commission. Used as a winter shelter in recent years, the historic old landmark still houses some of the crude instruments of years ago. Several groups last year petitioned the commission to make the mill an historical marker, but modern improvements in the parkway led to the South Milwaukee common council's request that it be torn down.
