Description
Milwaukee Ave. in South Milwaukee reopened Saturday with a parade (above) and other community festivities. Milwaukee General Construction Co. began working on the road July 20. The road was reconstructed from 6th to 15th Aves., new curbs and gutters were put in and some sidewalks were replaced. Reconstruction of the road cost $750,000, Mayor Chester Grobschmidt said. The parade was the idea of Karl Nimphius and other members of the On the Road Again Committee, which dealt with the Milwaukee Ave. project. The committee planned the parade so that the people of the community and the street's business people could celebrate the reopening, Grobschmidt said.
