When Harry Hoffman opened his advertising agency in the depression year of 1933, about all that an advertising man was expected to do was prepare ads. Since then the business has become vastly more complicated. "Now we play a major part in product development," he explained. "We conduct studies to find if the product is what the market wants. We have a major hand in packaging. We do a great deal of market research which helps determine potential markets. The media pattern is so complicated that we need to do a lot of media research studies."
