Labor Secretary James D. Hodgson urged Congress 1/31 to "gear up" and settle the 115-day West Coast dockworkers' strike or prepare for repeated disruptions" of its lawmaking chores by other transportation strikes. Hodgson made his appeal before the House Labor subcommittee which opened hearings on President Nixon's proposal for compulsory arbitration to settle the walkout. In front of him are packets of letters sent in by people protesting the strike.
