Washington D.C.: Senator Edmund Muskie (D-Maine), a vice presidential nominee in 1968 and an unsuccessful contender for the democratic party's presidential nomination in 1972, offers some of his views to the democratic platform committee in Washington May 20. He urged endorsement of a "Sunset Bill" that is pending in Congress. The bill would provide that all Federal programs would "self destruct" every five years unless Congress voted to renew them.
