1962 Press Photo Madame Pandit, sister of Indian Prime Minister, modeling sari

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Increasing numbers of American women are tying themselves up in knots -- trying to drape a sari. The influence of Indian and Pakistani dress on the Western world has shown sporadically in the U.S. and European style centers for the past several years. Here, Madame V.L. Pandit, sister of Indian Prime Minister Jawaharalal Nehru, is a model of dignity and quiet beauty in a sari as she sits in the New York City apartment of a friend.

Photo is dated 1962.

Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches.
