Description
While one group of senior citizens was being honored, another group was passing on its skills and abilities to a new generation,. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program and several community groups sponsored the city's first intergenerational Fair Tuesday at Forest Home Avenue School, 1516 West Forest Home Avenue. Students from Forest Home and St. Adalbert's School met with 35 older adults to learn skills in 30 different craft areas. Young people made their own candy, learned to cane chairs, and added stitches to a quilted banner for the school. The fair was held to help preserve some of the area's cultural heritage and bring together the two generations. The event was part of festivities marking May as Older Americans Month.
