Duplex burns - Fifth Battalion Chief Florian Sobczak (white hat) directed operations Tuesday as Milwaukee firemen battled a blaze that extensively damaged a two story frame duplex at 2037-39 North 31st Street. The cause of the fire, which began in the basement and spread, was undetermined. Eunice Coad, 48, and her three children fled the first floor to safety. The second floor residents were not home, but their cat and dog died in the fire. Officials estimated damage at about $25,000. (Milwaukee - fire department - firemen)
