1988 Press Photo Jaret Daniels raises silk worms and swallowtail butterflies

Jaret Daniels, 20, of Caledonia isn't a typical farmer, but like a dairyman, he has plenty to keep him busy. Daniels, who raises swallowtail butterflies and silkworm moths, turned a childhood interest into a farm five years ago He taught himself how to raise the insects from eggs to caterpillars (below) to pupae to butterflies by reading and by talking with other breeders The butterflies have to be fed by had and are kept in cages until sold. Daniels usually sells the butterflies to breeders, collectors and universities.
