Milwaukee - Fire Department - Firemen - Firefighters battled a garage fire Wednesday that spread to a North Side Church. Destroyed was a two story frame coach house at the rear of 2630 North 1st Street. Norman Wichman, 2nd Battalion chief, estimated damage to the building at $5,000. The fire spread to the Love Tabernacle Church, a pentecostal church at 2640 North 1st Street, causing about $5,000 damage to its roof and south wall, Wichman said. The fire started about 11:40 a.m. Wichman said. He said neighborhood children frequently played in the garage. Police and the state fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
