1971 Press Photo Participants unveil a banner at the Milwaukee Convention Center

Mayor Maier led those who raised a banner Wednesday during a groundbreaking at MECCA (Milwaukee Exposition Convention Center and Arena) across from the Auditorium Arena. Wearing hardhats while tugging behind him were County Executive Doyne and Common Council President Robert J. Jendusa. When unfurled, the banner said, "The People of Milwaukee present MECCA going up! 400 construction jobs. 1,200 new service jobs.
