Description
C-417 (For use Sunday, December 27, with Jerry Curry's St. Louis APN story on Cardinal Ritter) Prelates in Procession: At the opening ceremonies of the second session of the Ecumenical Council this fall, Joseph Cardinal Ritter (center) talked quietly with an unidentified priest during the solemn procession. The fiery prelate's anger flared during the last days of the session when some conservative Cardinals beat back a vote on the religious liberty schema he favored. He and two other Cardinals took their case to the Pope, but lost. Cardinal Ritter has already exercised his own brand of religious liberty by allowing an ecumenical marriage in St. Louis this past summer. (AP News-Features Photo) 4400-lg-12/7/64 fls sil 188
