Some of the lucrative lucre issue by Wisconsin banks prior to 1864 is pictured here. You've heard a lot of gags about 3$ bills, but we'll bet you never knew that the Bank of Wisconsin once issued an oddity (top). Right below that is a $2 bill, issued by the Union bank of Milwaukee. The L note (second from bottom) was good for 50$. Some students of money believe that it is from this bill we get the expression "'el of a note." The $5 bill below it was issued by the bank of Milwaukee. Both sides of a rare medal are shown. One was meant to boom Abraham Lincoln for president, the other side Andrew Johnson for vice-president.
