Workers busily lay sod in preparation for Saturday's opening of the Center Street Library in Milwaukee. The $1.8 million state of the art neighborhood library at 2727 West Fond du Lac Avenue, the southwest corner of Fond du Lac and West Center Street replaces the tiny neighborhood library at 2620 West Center Street. The two story cream city brick structure and former fire station had been a library for 61 years.

Photo measures 9.25 x 6 inches. Photo is dated 06-10-1989.
