1964 Press Photo Construction on the McKinley Marina in Milwaukee - mjb45704

Description
A 60 acre peninsula, which will take another four or five years to complete, is growing into Lake Michigan by the truckload. An estimated 150,000 cubic yards of fill, about 6% of the total needed, have been dumped in the harbor since last October in preparation for the McKinley beach marina. The new land area will provide protection for the boat anchorage basin and slips in the marina. It also will be landscaped and used for picnicking and other recreational activities. James Peschel, assistant general manager of county parks, said the land fill project would "get a shot in the arm" with the start of construction for the civic center and of freeways in the downtown area. The camera looks to the north, toward the coast guard station, the Milwaukee yacht club, McKinley and Bradford beaches and Picnic point. McKinley Marina
