Metric System: The Metrics Are Coming-State Transportation Department employees in Madison worked on signs bearing distances in both miles and kilometers in preparation for the first display of such signs in Wisconsin. They will be posted along interstate highways and freeways in Wisconsin before the tourist rush begins in May, according to Harry Price, the department's control engineer. The signs will be spread out so that each major geographical area will have at least one sign, he said. They are part of the "Think Metric" program aimed at helping motorists get used to measuring distances in metric figures
