Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
New York: A public mass, held in the Slavo-Byzantine Rite, is performed on the "Terrace of the Presidents," Keating Hall, on the Fordham University campus, July 30. The Russian ceremony was offered to promote world peace through prayer and an understanding of the peoples and cultures of lands behind the Iron Curtain. This mass differs from the Roman Catholic Mass in that three priests simultaneously consecrate the bread and wine and the people receive communion under both species. Performing the mass are: (left to right) Rev. Fionan Brannigan, S.J., of Foroham's Soloviev Russian Center; the very Rev. Archpriest Andrew Rogosh; and Rev. Andrei Ouroussoff, S.J.

Photo is dated 1952.

Photo measures 7.25 x 9 inches.
