Description
(Marquette University - Students) Lin Weiran, a Chinese graduate student who was a member of the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution, and his wife, Li Yuhua, watched television news for information about the turmoil in their country. The revolution changed Lin Weiran's life more subtly. Now a 39-year-old graduate student in history at Marquette University, he was in high school in China when the movement began. Although he regrets the period's violent excesses, he says it transformed the outlook of his generation. In 1978, Lin entered a university in Canton to study history. By 1982 he had earned a master's degree and had begun teaching. He came to Marquette in 1987 to broaden his education.
