1932 Press Photo Kaiser Wilhelm Church and Memorial church in Berlin, Germany

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
As a grim reminder of war's voracious destruction of lives and property, the tower ruins of the old Kaiser Wilhelm church in west Berlin have been preserved. Next to it stands the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial church, which has a six sided tower decorated with thousands of small panes of colored glass from Chartres, France. The church was completed recently and Bishop Otto Dibelius, an archenemy of the Communists, has been ministering to huge crowds at daily vespers. Berlin, Germany

Photo is dated 1952.
