1952 Press Photo French cruiser is taken in tow by the U.S. Navy, Mediteranean

Eastern Mediterranean: Simulating a loss of power, the French Cruiser Montcalm is taken in tow by the U.S.S. Des Moines, flagship of the U.S. sixth fleet. The "Disaster" operation took place during the allies' exercise "Long step" in the Mediterranean. Naval forces from six NATO nations participated in the fall maneuvers.
