Sandy Neilson of the United States women's swimming team was unable to hold back the tears Tuesday after winning the Olympic gold medal in the 100 meter freestyle event, upsetting Australian Shane Gould in the process. Miss Gould, foreground, also was beaten by America's Shirley Babashoff and had to settle for third place. Munich Olympics 1972.
