1985 Press Photo Summer Youth Employment Training Program helps clean up litter

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Litter/pilesâThe spring weather may please most of us, but it has put some pressure on local officials to keep the lakefront free of debris. Refuse (above) has begun to pile up on the breakwater at McKinley Marina as a fisherman enjoy the early warm weather. Summer crews who clean up the breakwater have not yet begun to work. The crews start their summer jobs June 24 through the Summer Youth Employment Training Program operated by the Community Relations-Social Development Commission. Although the pier (below) is federal property, The Army Corps of Engineers said it was not responsible for keeping breakwaters clean. In the meantime, youths from other work programs will be sent out to clean up the debris.

Photo measures 10 x 5.5 inches. Photo is dated 04-30-1985.
