Herve l'Heaureux, whose name means "the happy man," happily looks over his latest collection of messages praising his one-minute-of-prayer-for-peace movement. The movement is taking hold in Canada, where L'Heureux is now US consul-general. He has been in the US diplomatic service for years. L'Heureux started his movement in 1948 in his native town, Manchester, NH. L'Heureux discussed his idea with members of the American Legion post, of which he was a founder. He was a sergeant in World War I and winner of a Silver Star for bravery. The post adopted a resolution calling on all members to stop for a minute at noon every day to pray for peace. Since then the movement has been growing. It has won endorsements from thousands of groups of all sorts, and from congressmen, civic and religious leaders. The movement now reaches into 17 countries.
