53 years ago this summer Frederick H. Bandlow, then 19, set up his 35mm Univex-Mercury camera on a tripod in the back room of the village hall in Theresa, Wisconsin, across the street from the bank and post office. Then he invited townspeople to come in and sit for a free portrait. At that time, Theresa, about 50 miles northwest of Milwaukee in Dodge County, had 380 residents. Of these, 118 ventured into Bandlow's impromptu studio to have their pictures taken in front of a piece of wallpaper Bandlow had attached to a board.

Photo measures 10 x 6.75 inches. Photo is dated 8-6-1992.
