From January until the snow disappears in the spring, the freeloaders show up outside the residence of Keweenaw County Sheriff Elroy Antilla in Eagle River, Michigan. The sheriff provides a varied menu for some 50 to 60 whitetail deer that show up twice a day to dine on grain, stale bread, apples and potatoes. Although wary, some of the deer eventually feed from the hand. After the morning meal, the deer leap over a fence, returning around four o'clock for their evening repast. Above: Some of the morning crew watched for the first glimpse of Antilla. Right: This freeloader wasn't commenting - just chewing.
