Doctor Gerald Eielman poses at Rockefeller University, New York City, in front of a decorative mode of immunoglobulin-the molecules the body produces to fight disease-for the first chemical description of which he won the Nobel Prize in 1972. hes the first graduate of the University to join the faculty and produce Nobel Prize work: the University, he says, is unique in the freedom it gives the scientist in his work.
