Lawyers who represented indigent defendants in misdemeanor cases without charge were awarded certificates of appreciation Monday. The awards were presented by Judge F. Ryan Duffy, sr. (third from left at front), of the United States circuit court of appeals, at a meeting of the Legal Aid society. Also present was Circuit Judge Robert W. Hansen (sixth from left), who founded the voluntary defender program in 1957 when he presided in the old district court.
