1960 Press Photo Stonefield village part of Nelson Dewey state park, museums

19th Century Village Grows -- Typical of Wisconsin villages of 70 years ago, Stonefield is growing. The village is nearly all new, yet it represents a composite of communities which the state's pioneers knew. Everyday tools, furniture, clothing and other objects which the pioneers used will have a dramatic display case in the village. Ten types of commercial and public buildings of the past are already open. Others will be completed this summer. The village is part of Nelson Dewey state park, north of Cassville in Grant county. The park is on the estate of Wisconsin's first buildings, and also his barn, which has been turned into a farm museum. The state historical society, which runs the exhibits, is steadily adding to the structures and filling them with equipment. Among buildings displayed as they might have been before the turn of the century are a one room school, drugstore, barbershop, millinery, hardware and general stores, carpenter shops, livery stable, newspaper printing shop and bank building.
