Description
Father Matthias Patrick Cremer is a gentle, soft spoken priest who nearly became a body guard for Adolf Hitler. As Cremer told the story from the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Franklin where he has been a teacher for 30 years, it was clear that he had no doubts about possibly serving Hitler. He wanted nothing to do with it. "It was 1935 and I was 19, at college in The Netherlands," said Cremer, who turned 62 Monday. "That summer I went home to Aachen (Germany) and a local Nazi chief came to our home. "He said I was wanted to be a bodyguard for Hitler, to be in the SS." Father M. Patrick Cremer was once asked to be a Nazi guard.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 02-04-1978.
