1985 Press Photo Deaf children participate in a ballet class at Cates

Cates started in late april with six children in her ballet classes fro the hearing impaired. She expects a few more for the June session. Above, to her left are Christopher Sobczak and Stephanie Muscavitch. Facing her is Keiah Jack. To Cates' right are MC Pena and Maria Dossett, 11 (with glassses). Stephanie and Maria are not deaf but they both know sign language. Maria's grandfather has a hearing loss and so does Stephanie's sister, Cecely John, 10 who also is in the class but is not shown.
