1984 Press Photo Robert B. Sabbann spreading food into a deer feeder in Brule

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Hungry deer depend on the State Department of Natural Resources and animal lovers like Robert B. Sabbann (above) for food in winter when deep snow deprives them of their natural diet. Sabbann spread a mix of soybean, alfalfa, corn and oats into a feeder behind his Brule home, where hungry deer have packed down the snow. The DNR has plowed roads (below left) so that loggers can enter the woods. Deer feed on the cuttings left behind after logging. The Brule River (below right) provides a natural water supply for the deer. Animals, deer, winter feeding
