The tart cherry harvest is coming to a close in Door County this week, a few weeks later than usual because of poor weather. Workers at Seaquist Orchards, north of Sister Bay on Highway 42, catch the fruit in a tarp after it is shaken loose by a harvesting machine. Door County produces 95% of Wisconsin's cherry crop. The US crop will total more than 328.7 million pounds for 1993, the US Department of Agriculture predicts. Wisconsin ranks fifth in the United States in the production of tart cherries.
