1966 Press Photo "The Time Between The Wars" author Johnathan Daniels

Writes of FDR Romance - Johnathan Daniels, above, now editor of the News and Observer in Raleigh, N.C., has written a book, "The Time Between The Wars," in which he says there was a long, secret romance between Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife's social secretary, then Lucy Mercer. The book will be published Aug. 19. She later married Winthrop Rutherfurd, wealthy New Yorker. Daniels writes that, although the relationship supposedly ended in 1918. Mrs. Rutherford was with him when he died in 1945. She died in 1948. Daniels was a White House aid during the Roosevelt years.
