1960 Press Photo Ceramic pieces of the Nazca Culture of Peru; Milwaukee Museum

These pieces of the Nazca culture of Peru, 100 A.D. to 1000 A.D. are among 785 primitive Pereuvian art works donated to the public museum by Mr. and Mrs. Macolm K. Whyte of 4800 North Lake Drive, Whitefish Bay. The ceramic pieces include (from left) a characteristic Nazca pot with a bridge between two spouts. The design is of a killer whale. Next, a tall pot decorated with pictures of trophy heads collected by Nazca warriors. A small clay figurine of a monkey. The Indians turned it upside down, stretched a skin over the open bottom and used it for a drum. A solid clay figurine, which was probably used as a grave marker.
