Teacher Dee Rott makes a point to third graders at Amy Belle Elementary School. Area schools are utilizing the Cunningham Reading Model, a four -part approach that combines self-guided reading and writing periods with instructional group lessons. "We're trying to teach students that reading, writing and language are all one," Rott said. All of the Germantown School District's third graders scored above the state performance standard last year.
