1978 Press Photo Construction of Chicago Deep Tunnel Project Sewer System

A tunnel workman waited for an elevator to take him to the surface. The shaft had to be wide enough to accommodate heavy boring equipment and to supply air lines and conveyors for the removal of rock. (Illinois - Chicago - Deep Tunnel Project)
