Lee Felber shows his technique in making authentic rag rugs at Hawks Inn in Delafield. The 74-year-old Pewaukee practitioner learned to weave as a student at what is now the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His first job was teaching the skill to handicapped people through a state-sponsored rehabilitation program What's the best part of it for Felber? The weaving, of course. "It's exciting when you work up a batch of rags to see how they turn out," he says. Felber's loom (below) has seen 162 years of service.
