One of the beaches that normally offers stiff competition, ut Sunday it was the lead, as these pictures show. The temperature here hit a peak of 87. With the mercury in the nineties, attendance at Coney Island slumped more than 50% Sunday; 600,000 is par. The drop was blamed on an increase in polio cases.
