1965 Press Photo Aluminum hemispheres by Cleveland plant of Aluminum Company

These aluminum hemispheres, produced as structural forgings at the Cleveland plant of Aluminum Company of America, are designed for various operations at extreme ocean depths. They are used singly as structural components in underwater vehicle or in pairs joined to form giant spheres that can support heavy equipment. Each section is eight feet in diameter and weighs 12,000 pounds.
