On June 15, 1919, Britain's Sir John Alcock & Sir Arthur Whitten-Brown became the first airmen to cross the Atlantic non-stop when they flew a Vickers Vimy bomber from Newfoundland to Ireland in 15 hours and 57 minutes- eight years before anyone else succeeded in a similar non-stop flight. In their honor a statue will stand in London Airport, as a constant reminder of the men who helped make modern aviation possible.

Photo is dated 1954.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
