1956 Press Photo 900th Anniversary of "Blutritt" in Weingarten, Bodensee.

Description
Over 900 years had passed since benedictine monks had been in Martinsberg in Weingarten. In 1094 Countess Judith brought the "Heilige Blut" from Flanders as a wedding gift for the cloister and her husband Welf IV. Ever since then monks have kept the treasure safe. Since then, thousands pilgrim year in and year out to Weingarten. On Blood Friday(May 11) 700 riders of the Heilige Blut ride through the area. Pictured: Dr. Bernhard Kaelin of S.
