Ice overtakes Vilshofen. Around 12:30 in the morning an ice jam in the Danube river came into the city of Vilshofen in Niederbayern. Along with it came higher water levels around 7.2 meters which was 40 cm higher than the previous record. People were evacuated in a timely manner though and no one was injured. Pictured here is a volunteer helper in Vilshofen as he carries a woman to safety from her house.

Photo measures 3.5 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 3-3-1956.
